Conclave
Terms of Use
Last updated 16 September 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Eoin Affotey-Walters, 77 Frances Road B30 3DU, Kings Norton Birmingham, United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). They govern your use of the Conclave iOS app. By downloading or using the app you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
What Conclave is
Conclave presents your questions to a council of historical figures and returns written counsel in their voice, drawn from what is recorded of how they thought and what they did. It also keeps a private ledger of the decisions you record.
The counsel is generated by artificial intelligence. It is not written by the historical figures named, who are dead, and it is not a transcript of anything they said. It is an interpretation produced by a language model, and it may be wrong, incomplete, or historically inaccurate.
It is not professional advice. Nothing in the app is legal, financial, medical, tax, or psychological advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional. Do not rely on it as the sole basis for any decision that carries consequence. Where a decision matters, take proper advice.
Your decisions are your own. You are solely responsible for what you choose to do and for the outcome. We accept no responsibility for decisions you take after reading counsel in the app.
If you are in distress or facing a crisis, Conclave is not the right tool. Speak to a doctor, or in the UK call the Samaritans on 116 123.
Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Usage Rules. You may not transfer, redistribute, sublicense, rent, or sell the app. You may not copy it, reverse-engineer it, or attempt to extract its source code or prompts except to the extent the law permits you to.
Subscription and payment
- Conclave offers an auto-renewing subscription at £16.99 per month or £104.99 per year, charged to your Apple account on confirmation of purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless auto-renew is switched off at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
- You can manage and cancel your subscription in your Apple account settings at any time. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not refund the period you are in.
- Where a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited if you buy a subscription during the trial.
- Payment is taken by Apple, not by us. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies. We cannot issue refunds directly, though we will support a reasonable request you make to Apple.
- We may change the price. If we do, we will tell you before the change takes effect, and you may cancel before it applies.
Your account and what you submit
You must be at least 16 to use Conclave. You are responsible for keeping access to your device and Apple account secure.
You keep ownership of what you write in the app. You grant us a licence to process it for the sole purpose of operating the service — generating counsel, storing your ledger, and supporting you. We do not use it to train models and we do not permit our providers to.
You agree not to use Conclave to seek assistance with anything unlawful, to submit content that infringes someone else's rights, to attempt to manipulate the model into producing harmful output, or to probe, disrupt, or overload the service. We may suspend or end your access if you do.
Availability
We aim to keep Conclave running but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may modify features, retire them, or take the service down for maintenance. If we discontinue the service entirely while you hold a paid subscription, we will give reasonable notice.
Our intellectual property
The app, its name, its design, its written content, and the way the council is composed and presented belong to us. Nothing in these terms transfers any of that to you. The historical figures themselves, and the historical record, are of course not ours.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that, and to the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app or from any decision you take in reliance on it. Our total liability to you in any 12-month period will not exceed the amount you paid us for the app in that period.
If you are a consumer, you have statutory rights under UK consumer law that these terms do not affect.
Ending this agreement
You may stop using Conclave at any time and delete your account from within the app. We may end your access if you breach these terms in a serious or repeated way. On termination, your licence ends and your data is handled as set out in the Privacy Policy.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Conclave after that means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
Terms required by Apple
The following apply because Conclave is distributed through the App Store.
- This agreement is between you and us only, not with Apple. We alone are responsible for the app and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or privacy law.
- If a third party claims the app infringes its intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not listed on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the app.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, on your acceptance, have the right to enforce them against you.
